2003 Illinois-Missouri Route 66 Association Picnic

Saturday, July 26, turned out to be an almost perfect day for a Route 66 picnic on the Missouri side of the old Chain-of-Rocks bridge.  Two "Rocks" came together as the Chuck-A-Burger drive-in located on the St. Charles Rock Road set up and provided road food for the members who gathered at the bridge.  Ted Drews frozen custard, a South St. Louis Route 66 Icon, provided ice cold treats.   A special treat to the roadies and anyone who showed up at 4:00 PM was a drive across to the Illinois shore.   Our thanks to Trailnet, as more than 100 vehicles passed over the spans that day.  St. Louis Post Dispatch reporter/photographer Katherine Bish recorded the days events with an article in the paper.
